F.A.Q.
How is the GoBoardz site monetized?
GoBoardz uses Google's advertisement systems as its primary source of income. Users who visit GoBoardz are shown non-intrusive, content-related text advertisements within the GoBoardz forum threads.

Is there any way to have the advertisements removed?
There are no plans to remove the Google ads from GoBoardz. In the future, we may evaluate some type of fee-based service to allow for ad-free forums.

How do Subscriptions work?
GoBoardz subscriptions aren't subscriptions in the purest sense of the word. Subscriptions are merely a way of tracking the forums that you visit, making it easier to find the forums you frequently post on. The first time you post to a GoBoardz forum, you automatically activate a subscription for yourself, and that subscription will show up wherever your subscription lists are displayed (such as in your account management panel). Deleting your subscription will do nothing but take that forum off of your subscription lists. All of your past posts will remain.

What browsers does GoBoardz support?
We currently test all GoBoardz page functionality under the latest versions of Safari, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Netscape. We will do our best to support all of the major, popular browsers. At some point we may implement small-device browsing, such as cell phones and PDA's.

Is there a downloadable version of GoBoardz that I can install and host on my own server?
There are no plans for a public release of the GoBoardz code to deploy on personal web servers. However, this is not to say it won't happen somewhere down the road. If there is enough demand for a stand-alone version of GoBoardz, we'll by all means consider packaging a special build of the software that can be downloaded and installed freely.

I created a forum, but now it's gone. Where did it go?
We routinely check our databases for old, unused low post count forums. These forums will be deleted in order to free up the domain names taken up by them so other users can start using them. GoBoardz will also delete any forums whose content goes against the policies laid out in our Terms of Use agreement. That agreement can be seen via a link at the bottom of every GoBoardz page.

What's the difference between a forum Moderator, an Admin, and a normal user?
  • Administrators have full control over all aspects of their forums. They can change general forum settings, create and delete categories, flag/unflag users as moderators, delete/ban user subscriptions, create/delete topics, and create/delete replies. There can only be one administrator per forum.
  • Moderators can do everything that an administrator can do except for creating/deleting categories, changing general forum settings, and flagging/unflagging other moderators. There can be an unlimited number of moderators per forum.
  • Normal users can create and edit their own topics and replies.
Why does it say I have to wait a certain amount of time before I create another forum, topic, or post?
There are two reasons why post limitations are put into place. It protects you from accidently making double posts due to internet latency, as well as preventing spammers and griefers from creating lots of useless forums, topics, and posts on our system. Even with this system in place, any kind of suspicious activity that includes excessive posting sends up a red flag that GoBoardz will investigate.

What is the difference between a forum and a blog?
Whenever someone creates a forum on GoBoardz, they have the option of choosing the 'blog' style. What this does is merely change how the system displays posts, and also adds a menu at the top that sorts 'blog' posts by topic, and by month. Also, only the blog creator can create topics. Visitors are only allowed to reply to topics.
